Caracas Witnesses Rallies in Support of Maduro

(MENAFN) On Monday evening, more than a thousand demonstrators filled the streets of Venezuela’s capital, Caracas, to express solidarity with President Nicolas Maduro as he appeared in a New York courtroom for his initial arraignment following his capture by US forces.

In the city center, participants joined the “Great March for Venezuela,” denouncing the US military intervention and what they described as the abduction of their leader.

Supporters carried placards and shouted slogans such as “We want him back,” “Return our working-class president,” “Sovereignty is not negotiable,” and “We will always be loyal to Maduro.”

Pro Maduro rallies also occurred beyond Venezuela, including in Cuba, Colombia, and several European nations such as Spain.

At the same time, opposition groups and right wing factions in different parts of the world organized gatherings in favor of the US operation.

The American mission, announced by President Donald Trump and executed on Jan. 3, 2026, involved aerial strikes and a special forces raid that led to Maduro and his wife being flown out of the country to face long standing US federal charges, including narco terrorism and conspiracy to traffic narcotics.

In the contested July 2024 presidential election, Venezuela’s National Electoral Council declared Maduro the victor with about 51% of the vote, a result questioned by international observers and the US.

Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino Lopez and interim head of state Vice President Delcy Rodriguez, appointed acting president by the Supreme Court after Maduro’s capture, issued strong denunciations of the US action.
